Walk of the month - in the bard's footsteps 

Area: Stratford-upon-Avon

Distance: 2.5 Miles

Duration: 1 Hour

 

Begin walking along the banks of the River Avon which is opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Continue until you come to a footbridge over river in front of the A4390 road bridge.

Turn Right over footbridge and bear Right past the old mill building into Mill Lane.

Continue up the lane and through the Holy Trinity Churchyard where you can see the river views.

Leave the Churchyard through the main gate into the Old Town.

Turn into Southern Lane and Right into New Place Gardens walking towards the Brass Rubbing Centre.

Stroll through the Theatre Gardens, exiting into Waterside and passing the front of the Old Theatre.

Left into Chapel Lane wandering through Knot Gardens reaching Chapel Street.

You will see Guild Chapel at the top of the lane and Shakespeare's Grammer School, with New Place Gardens to your Right.

Go Right along Chapel Street, passing the Town Hall into the High Street, with Harvard House on your Left.

At the end of the High Street, bear Left around traffic island into Henley Street which takes you past Shakespeare's Birthplace and Museum.

Bear Right at the top of Henley Street and Left into Birmingham Road, after the pedestrian crossing go Left up to the traffic lights.

Turn Right up Clopton Road for 100 yards and walk along the tow path of Stratford-upon-Avon Canal.

Cross over at Bridge No. 68 and continue along tow path into Bancroft Gardens where you will see the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
